Second Thoughts

Second Thoughts by Dan Campbell

Under a backyard tree
he prepares the noose,

He looks up as he squats
and gazes at the full moon
as if for the very first time.

Then reaches into his pocket,
removes a carefully prepared note
and wipes his trembling ass.
